We are hiring interns across urban policy and design. These internships are full-time engagements for candidates interested in contributing to long-term urban reform and practice. Two teams are currently hiring full-time interns.

Intern – Urban Policy | Mobility and Spatial Intelligence

Open Positions: 2 | Duration: 6–12 months   Location: In-office, Bengaluru 

Role Overview 

The team works on advancing priority planning and design reform agendas across scales, with a strong focus on strengthening how Indian cities plan, design, implement, and maintain their urban roads and public space systems. The intern will support the team in developing structured pathways for policy adoption, institutionalization, and scaling of urban planning and design reforms. This includes conducting research, analyzing institutional and governance arrangements, and contributing to guidance documents, reform recommendations, and implementation frameworks.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Conduct research on planning, design, infrastructure systems, including collating national and global best practices
  • Analyse institutional structures, mandates, and coordination processes to understand how policies are adopted, implemented, and scale.
  • Support the development of guidance documents, reform recommendations, and implementation pathways.
  • Prepare clear, well-structured briefs, notes, and presentations for internal use and policy engagement.
  • Assist with synthesising insights from stakeholder interactions, field observations, and secondary sources, and help maintain internal documentation and trackers

Eligibility 

  • Pursuing or recently completed a degree in urban planning or urban design
  • Proficiency in GIS/ spatial analytics
  • Strong interest in planning and design policy
  • Comfortable working with government documents, policies, regulatory frameworks
  • Strong writing and analysis skills
  • Skills and Competencies 
  • Ability to break down complex problems into clear components
  • Ability to find, synthesize, and critically assess information
  • Clear writing; ability to present ideas to different audiences
  • Awareness of diverse actors—government, citizens, technical agencies
  • Ability to work independently, structure tasks, and meet timelines
  • Comfortable working in a small, fast-moving team

Intern – Urban Water Resilience

Open Positions: 1 | Duration: 6 months  
Location: In-office, Bengaluru 

Role Overview 

The team works on advancing integrated planning and design approaches for resilient urban systems across scales, with a focus on urban water resilience, nature-based solutions, blue-green infrastructure, and public realm planning. The intern will support the team in developing spatial strategies, urban design frameworks, and implementation approaches through research, spatial analysis, design exploration, and policy review.

Key Responsibilities 

    • Conduct research on urban planning, urban design, urban water systems, nature-based solutions, and related national and global best practices.

    • Undertake spatial analysis using GIS to understand urban systems, including land use, drainage networks, ecological assets, mobility, and public spaces.

    • Support the preparation of urban design frameworks, spatial strategies, conceptual design proposals, and visual communication material across neighbourhood and city scales.

    • Analyse planning policies, institutional arrangements, and governance frameworks to support the development of planning and design recommendations.

    • Prepare clear, well-structured reports, drawings, presentations, maps, and diagrams for internal discussions and stakeholder engagement.

    • Assist in synthesising insights from stakeholder interactions, field observations, spatial datasets, and secondary research, and help maintain project documentation and trackers.

Eligibility 

    • Pursuing or recently completed a Master’s degree in Urban Design, Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture, Environmental Planning, or a related discipline.

    • Proficiency in GIS and spatial analysis.

    • Strong spatial design and visual communication skills.

    • Proficiency in design and drafting software such as Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Rhino, or equivalent tools.

    • Strong interest in integrated urban planning, design, policy, and climate resilience.

    • Comfortable working with government documents, policies, and regulatory frameworks.

    • Strong research, analytical, and communication skills.

Skills and Competencies 

    • Ability to break down complex urban challenges into clear spatial and design strategies.

    • Ability to find, synthesise, and critically assess information from multiple sources.

    • Strong spatial thinking and the ability to communicate ideas through maps, diagrams, drawings, and visualisations.

    • Clear writing and presentation skills for technical and non-technical audiences.

    • Awareness of diverse actors—government, communities, technical agencies, and other stakeholders.

    • Ability to work independently, structure tasks, and meet timelines.
      Comfortable working in a small, fast-moving, multidisciplinary team.
