About Jana Urban Space Foundation

Established in 2007, Jana Urban Space Foundation (Jana USP) is a Professional Services Social Enterprise (PSSE), delivering transformational, world-class work on the spatial dimension of cities. Jana USP’s work is focused primarily on practice – the execution of projects that deliver this transformational experience on-the-ground.  Such practice work is carried out in three studios: Urban Planning; Urban Design; and Inclusive Architecture. Over the years, Jana USP has also taken up several policy and reforms initiatives, related to spatial aspects of Urban Planning and Urban Design of Indian cities, with a view to address many policy, institutional and operational bottlenecks in these areas. Jana USP is a not-for-profit entity. 

JanaUSP is part of the JANA Group – one of India’s best-known groups of not-for-profit institutions working towards the mission of fixing India’s cities.  Swati Ramanathan and Ramesh Ramanathan co-founded Jana Group in 2001 and it presently works across citizen participation and city governance reforms (through Janaagraha Centre for Citizenship and Democracy), city planning and design (through Jana Urban Space Foundation), municipal consulting services (through Jana Urban Services for Transformation Pvt. Ltd.), banking and financial services for the urban poor (through Jana Small Finance Bank) and affordable housing for the urban poor (through Janaadhar). 

We are looking for a passionate and bright professional to join our team and support our senior management with critical business development and project management functions. This role will be based out of Bengaluru.

What will Associate – BD and Projects really do­?

As Associate – BD and Projects, you will play a critical role in driving business growth and ensuring the smooth execution of projects. You will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities, supporting the Senior Managers, coordinating client interactions, and ensuring all project tasks are handled efficiently.

  • Strategic business development: Perform research on market trends and industry sectors to support the development of strategic initiatives. Collaborate with the strategic development team for identify potential opportunities. This also includes monitoring and tracking potential business opportunities through various online and offline channels.
  • Bid Management: Manage the proposal process end to end. This includes preparing both technical and non-technical documentations, collaborating with the admin and technical team to ensuring accuracy in submission of the proposal as per the required format. Additionally, you will be responsible for monitoring and updating the Business Development database within the company’s internal system.
  • Client Relationship Management: Develop and maintain relationships with potential and existing clients, understanding their needs and proposing tailored solutions. Develop and nurture positive relationships with external stakeholders through proactive engagement and regular communication.
  • Communications and outreach: Assist in creating collaterals, presentations, research papers, and articles, and represent the company at relevant forums.
  • Negotiation & Contracting: Assist in negotiating terms with clients and support the contract management process
  • Project Coordination: Work closely with the project team to ensure projects are well planned, schedules are maintained, and milestones are met. Maintain accurate documentation of project progress, deliverables, and issues. Assist in the creation of status reports and presentations for clients and internal teams. Assist in identifying potential project risks and help develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • Post-Project Evaluation: Support the post-project evaluation process to gather feedback and improve future project execution.
  • Undertake such other tasks that may be assigned from time to time

Qualifications and Experience

  • A degree in Urban Planning, Policy, Management, or a related field (Graduate or Post-Graduate) or Masters in Urban management.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in business development, project coordination, or a similar role in the urban development sector.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) Adobe Suite (Illustrator & InDesign), and other relevant analytical and design software.
  • Familiarity with project management software (e.g., Trello, Asana, or similar tools).
