One of the best way to improve road safety is with well – designed intersections that can show case design and safety the principles above under the mantle of SAFE SURE.
With the overall strategy of child-friendly design, the redesign will be guided by three main principles – Safe, Accessible and Educational.
Safe – Ensuring safe crossings with refuge areas, good lighting and surveillance. Additionally, the geometry of the roads will be cleaned up to provide for traffic calming and to remove all conflict points, therefore minimising possibilities of crashes and fatalities.
Accessible – Ensuring legible signage and way-finding and promoting universal accessibility throughout the network.
Educational – Weaving in active and passive educational tools through out the network that will educate children about road safety while also being fun and interactive.
