A collaborative effort with Terwilliger Center for Innovation in Shelter (TCIS) – Habitat for Humanity India, this project looks at building two prototype homes, using cutting edge precast technology that are comfortable for the user and provide flexibility to modify spaces as per needs of the families. The intent is to design a system that can be scaled up, and can deliver affordable and sustainable homes quickly.
The project includes participatory engagement with the household partners, involving them directly in the design process. Two participatory exercises were carried out in the process to arrive at a feasible outcome. One, at the commencement of the project to understand the families’ requirements and lifestyle and to visit the project sites and collectively envision the type of home the family wants. Two, concept designs were made and presented to the families along with a physical model to better understand the space configuration.
